Counsel to the Clerk

The Counsel to the Clerk is one of five Clerk's Office attorneys who provide legal and procedural analysis and complex case management support on matters pending before the court, working with judges and court staff. The duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
jurisdictional screening/analysis and recommended dispositions for jurisdictionally-defective appeals; case screening analysis; analysis and presentation of complex motions and procedural matters and preparation of orders regarding the same; review and analysis of cost bills and attorneys' fees motions; legal analysis and recommended dispositions of petitions for permission to appeal; handling of attorney disciplinary matters; acting as courtroom deputy during oral arguments; proofreading decisions; and other duties as needed or assigned. Qualifications:
Admission to practice law before the highest court of a state, territory, commonwealth or possession of the U.S. Strong academic background. Superior legal research, analytical, writing, and editing skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability and desire to work in a team environment. Knowledge of and skill in using Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat, and similar computer applications. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
Post-graduate appellate court legal staff experience and/or judicial law clerk experience. Substantial professional experience in the practice of law.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
