Overview
The Director of Sales is responsible for the sales performance of multiple Field sales districts across an assigned geographic region. The Director of Sales will have 5-10 District Manager direct reports and be responsible for over $100M in sales. The Director of Sales will drive sales performance by providing strategic direction and support to field sales teams, holding sales districts accountable for sales growth and goal achievement, working with the Director of Key Accounts to drive share growth at high-opportunity accounts, and working with the Director of Customer Success to drive digital product sales, usage, and retention.
Responsibilities
Provide leadership to assigned personnel, translating Company and Region vision and strategy into workable, tactical implementation plans
Work cooperatively with Director of Key Accounts to develop strategies for increasing Cengage market share through growth of under-monetized large accounts
Work cooperatively with Director of Customer Success to ensure support, drive usage growth, and ensure renewal of large digital adoptions
Coordinate with and support district leadership teams as required to secure high-value, departmental or institutional sales
Recruit, develop, and retain sales talent at the Learning Consultant and District Manager levels
Cooperate with regional bookstore partners to drive sell-through of print products
Oversee budgets for assigned Districts and ensure that reporting requirements are met
Qualifications
BA or BS degree
Minimum 6-8 years of progressive experience in Sales, Marketing, or Management
Experience leading managers in education, publishing, or related information delivery industry
Experience managing a sales team with a proven track record in sales, sales management and leadership
Strong business acumen and excellent team-building skills
Excellent leadership and people skills, problem-solving skills, time management skills
Driven to succeed
Desire for continuous learning and improvement
Proficiency in PC and Microsoft Office applications
Demonstrated ability and quantifiable success in managing corporate initiatives
Ability to travel 30-40% overnight; must be able to travel by both auto and air
Preferred
Sales experience in academic publishing, services, or other higher education sales
Experience mentoring and developing others
Digital product training experience in educational settings; direct digital training experience in a higher education setting highly desired
Flexibility and adaptability to change
Ability to work effectively in a group and reach decisions by consensus
