Lead Enterprise Instructor, Principal Developer (Agile/XP)

Our instructors don't just talk the talk: they lead by example and immerse students in Extreme Programming (XP) from day one. In addition to giving lectures and white-boarding, instructors lead inquiry, pair program, provide ongoing student feedback, and coach XP product teams.
Galvanize is looking for instructors that are interested in teaching the fundamentals of XP and modern web development. We offer an intensive XP course that focuses on using XP to produce software on budget, on time and with a high degree of customer satisfaction. Our XP curriculum includes Pair Programming, Writing User Stories, User Story Pointing, Agile Retrospectives, Iteration Planning Meetings, Test Driven Development (TDD), Team Building and relies on technologies such as JavaScript, Node.js, Express, HTML/CSS, Java, SQL, MongoDB, Git, and Pivotal CloudFoundry.
This position can be based anywhere in the US but will require regular travel/long term engagements (2-3 months) at various client sites around the US (currently includes Phoenix, San Francisco OR Chicago).
AS A SENIOR DEVELOPER, LEAD INSTRUCTOR YOU WILL:

  • Lead lectures and class activities and support students during project work.

  • Plan daily lessons and assess students on an ongoing basis.

  • Participate in product feedback for internal tool.

  • Provide students with a meaningful training experience in the classroom.

  • Work alongside Galvanize staff in providing prompt feedback on student progress.

  • Provide a strong Extreme Programming environment.

  • Coach student teams on project work using XP principles.

  • Coach Product and Project Managers on XP.

  • Facilitate a dynamic and collaborative classroom community.

  • Teach and plan a full work week.

  • Work closely with co-instructors to provide students with meaningful and prompt feedback on their progress.


EXPECTED
Experience:

  • At least 3
    years of Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Java, JavaScript, or Python production experience.

  • Fluency in the following topics: Extreme Programming, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, SQL (any of PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, etc), MongoDB, Web Fundamentals (HTTP, APIs, REST, JSON).

  • Experience working with Agile or XP teams - pair programming experience a plus.

  • Thrives in a continuous feedback environment and welcomes feedback from students and other instructors.

  • Previous background in teaching and/or mentoring developers - or a deep interest in giving it a try.

  • Eager to shape the skills, minds, and trajectories of a team learning XP.

  • High performing current XP team lead or participant desirable.

  • Great communication skills.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
