This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides manager's a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. Veterans Health Administration Chief Business Office Purchased Care (CBOPC), and is organizationally aligned to the VHA Deputy Chief Business Officer, Purchased Care (DCBO PC), Denver CO. CBOPC is a United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Central Office function. The Trainee will be assigned to support operations in one of the following departments: State Home Per Diem Inquiries, State Home Per Diem Corrective Action Plan, State Home Per Diem Organizational Pilot, State Home Per Diem Guidance, Policy, and Procedures Formation, VISN 12 Automation 10-10SH Project, Data Compliance Strategy, and State Home Per Diem Application/Electronic Tool Verification.
Performs a full range of administrative duties to support CBOPC assigned department.
Applies knowledge and problem solving skills to varied and advanced functions of software types or other equivalent knowledge of automated systems, MS Office, etc.
Assists in conducting ongoing systematic data driven reviews of VHA/CBOPC revenue processes by entering data and reviewing draft reports for accuracy, efficiency and completeness.
Receives and responds to written, telephonic and/or electronic inquiries.
Provides program support in a number of distinct areas which will have related tasks such as communication and scheduling coordination, database maintenance and work on special projects as directed.
Prepares written documents such as correspondence, memoranda, meeting minutes, etc. of a routine nature using word processing and spreadsheet software. In the development of written materials for other persons, the incumbent ensures proper format, layout, grammar, style, etc.
Uses office copying machines to reproduce and assemble copies of a variety of correspondence and prepares responses as appropriate; uses fax machines accurately and promptly transmits and receives documents and messages electronically using a networked computer.
Maintains, files, purges and disposes of office records in accordance with established regulations and procedures; locates items in files and searches for missing or incorrectly filed items; records and files information on specific cases, current projects and/or studies for personnel within the office.

Internship Program: To be eligible, applicants must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis.
To be eligible for the Internship appointment, the student must:
Live within the local commuting distance of Denver, CO.
Meet agency policy on nepotism.
Have a cumulative academic GPA of 2.0 or higher and maintain the same academic standard while in the Internship program.
Be formally accepted into an accredited high school, technical, vocational, 4 year college or university, graduate or professional school in a discipline related to the position being filled. (proof of CURRENT enrollment must be submitted with packet)
Be capable of working at least 640 hours prior to completion of degree requirements in order to be considered for non-competitive conversion. Conversion is not promised nor guaranteed.
GS-5 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNSHIP APPOINTMENT:
Completion of 4 full academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree.
NOTE: One full academic year of undergraduate; graduate; vocational; trades; technical or high school education is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of full-time study. All education beyond high school must be accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
