This position is being filled under the Pathways Recent Graduate Program that affords developmental experiences in the Federal Government intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs. The Recent Graduate Program lasts for 1 year. Participants who successfully complete the Recent Graduate Program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent appointment or a term (1-4 years in duration) appointment without further competition.

Helping park staff, in collaboration with the public, to develop long-term defensible strategies for managing visitor use and visitor capacity in parks.
Assembling and analyzing technical information related to the visitor use management discipline to support planning and compliance processes, including applying the knowledge of applicable research related to visitor characteristics, patterns of use, preferences and benefits to help address complex visitor use management issues.
Participating in all phases of the planning process for a variety of park projects and serving as a visitor use project specialist on interdisciplinary project teams.
Preparing recommendations regarding goals, objectives, and alternatives for planning and compliance projects and assessing potential impacts on visitor opportunities and visitor experiences as a result of proposed management actions.
Writing sections of planning and compliance documents.
Facilitating internal, public, and stakeholder meetings and workshops and representing the NPS in a variety of settings.
Maintaining professional contacts and relationships within the field of visitor use management.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR PATHWAYS RECENT GRADUATE PROGRAM: Applicants must be recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution, OR veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree due to military service obligation, who have as much as six years after degree completion to apply.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE for GS-07:
Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include performing basic work or assisting in the analysis and evaluation of outdoor recreation data and trends, including assessing the interests of diversified groups and means of meeting those needs; evaluation of land or water areas for their potential recreation or related use; preparing plans or programs for visitor use; developing alternative solutions for providing visitor use opportunities while preserving or restoring the quality of the outdoor environment.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE for GS-07:
Have at least one year of graduate level education in outdoor recreation planning or a related field such as recreation management, sociology, social science, forestry landscape architecture, economics, biological science, park administration, earth science, natural resource management and conservation, urban planning. Applicants who qualify on the basis of graduate work in related disciplines must have one or more courses in outdoor recreation.

Meet the criteria for Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) as evidenced by one of the three following methods: I am in the upper third of my graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; OR I have a GPA 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum, or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (B+ or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in my major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR I am a member in one of the national scholastic honor societies.
AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF QUALIFYING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE for GS-07:
Have an equivalent combination of such education and experience. For example, have six months of the specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and one year (14 semester hours or 27 quarter hours) of directly-related graduate level college study in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education).

Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level. Possess a Master's or equivalent degree or two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in a field related to the position being filled, or LL.B or J.D., if related. The degree should have a major study in outdoor recreation planning or a related field such as: recreation management, sociology, social science, forestry landscape architecture, economics, biological science, park administration, earth science, natural resource management and conservation, , urban planning. Applicants who qualify on the basis of graduate work in related disciplines must have one or more courses in outdoor recreation.
AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF QUALIFYING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE for GS-09:

Basis for rating:

Travel may be frequent and involves the normal risks and discomforts of automobile, bus, rail, or air transportation travel.
