Department DH GI LAB PAV L Job Summary Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of clerical duties for their assigned clinic which include, but are not limited to, appointment scheduling, on-line, in person and telephone appointment reminders, insurance verification and authorization, answer incoming telephone calls to the clinic, daily review of clinic schedules and miscellaneous clerical duties to ensure proper patient flow in the clinic.
Provides assistance to Denver Health staff by collecting demographic, medical complaint and key information required to facilitate appropriate patient care and call resolution.
Completes computerized patient scheduling, collection of comprehensive demographic and insurance information required to facilitate timely and accurate billing of services, assists in data collection for departmental metrics, and creates standard of work for department scheduling.
Essential Functions:
Proficient in gathering, verifying and updating demographic, financial, guarantor, insurance and patient information for new and existing patients within the practice management/electronic health record and various Denver Health computer applications Performs daily reminder telephone calls and verifies pertinent demographic information to insure an expedited check in process.
Reviews clinic schedules daily to insure compliance with the correct patient visit type, with the correct provider and scheduling guidelines have been applied appropriately.
Performs administrative/clerical support for clinic which may include, but are not limited to, handling of incoming and outgoing faxes and scans, medical record/chart review, data entry/patient referral management, triaging telephone calls and directing appropriately.
Handling of paper prescriptions for patient pick up.
Management of any clinic waitlists to back fill open appointment slots.
Orients and provides assistance with training and education of new clerical support staff.
Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients and visitors.
Answers all calls in a courteous, respectful and helpful manner utilizing interpretation services to facilitate customer communications; performs information lookups using all sources of data to provide rapid, accurate call resolution.
Resolves customer problems by clarifying issues; researching and exploring answers and alternative solutions; implementing solutions; escalating unresolved problems.
Educates customers on additional services by recognizing opportunities to enhance the customers experience and meet their needs; informs and guides patients to resources.
Understands standardized scheduling, rescheduling, and cancellation guidelines.
Schedules to appropriate provider according to patient request, provider direction, and availability according to preset approved scheduling guidelines.
Maintains continuity of work operations by documenting and communicating actions Enhances organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Work
Experience:
1-3 years of healthcare or professional clerical experience required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent customer focus/service, people skills, listening, verbal and written communication, problem solving and multitasking skills.
Knowledge of standardized scheduling, canceling, rescheduling, attendance procedures.
Knowledge of Commercial Insurance referral and authorization process is preferred.
Some knowledge and the ability to learn medical terminology.
Ensures confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on the job, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities or to improve a patient's care.
