Position EmphasisThe Facility for Advanced Spatial Technology (FAST) is an academic computing lab housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and forms the core of on-campus geospatial teaching activity at the University of Colorado Denver.
The FAST is an interdisciplinary lab that hosts courses taught in multiple departments in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Architecture and Planning.
The FAST supports faculty and students taking geospatial classes, including both physical in-classroom classes and online classes.
The Geospatial Lab Coordinator will oversee and coordinate various geospatial projects, processes, programs, and other strategic initiatives across the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
This position develops, directs, and manages the successful operation and future growth of the Facility for Advanced Spatial Technology and coordinates with other geospatial professionals throughout the University of Colorado Denver community to collaboratively support and grow awareness of and access to geospatial presence and technology within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Supervision ReceivedThis position reports to the IT Director.
Supervision ExercisedThis position will supervise the facilities and staff of the FAST, which may comprise up to 5 student geospatial consultants and student monitors.
Key ResponsibilitiesManagement:
Student Geospatial Consultants and Student MonitorsManage and supervise the FAST team, including hiring, discipline, compensation, evaluation, incentives, training, and mentoring, with a focus on growth and learning Create and nurture a welcoming, diverse, energetic work environment that attracts and retains promising student talentFacilitate the growth of FAST Lab team members through positive failure experiences, professional development opportunities, and high-quality coaching and mentorshipContribute to and promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the universityFAST LabUnder direction of CLAS IT staff, perform routine maintenance of computer workstations, geospatial hardware, and software within the FAST LabMaintain third party software under direction of CLAS IT staff andin collaboration with geospatial software vendorsCreate, maintain, and publish documentation on the management and maintenance of the FAST laboratory and its facilitiesManage the preparation and maintenance of FAST Lab use statistics reports to inform faculty and CLAS IT management for decision-making, communicate peak usage times, and planningInteract directly with students, faculty, and staff to identify needs, collect data, and identify solutions with a human-centered design approachArcGIS OnlineManage the campus-wide ArcGIS site license under direction of CLAS IT staffAct as the liaison between student and faculty researchers in the implementation of ArcGIS Online within their workflowPlanning:
Communicate regularly with other geospatial staff and faculty to assess needs and opportunities throughout the universitySupport vision and leadership within geospatial community to enable constituent success and support its development and growth into new domains throughout the university and communityResearch, evaluate, and recommend system technologies to support the geospatial program's strategic priorities in collaboration with CLAS IT staffSupport the educational and research geospatial goals of colleges within CU Denver that contribute to the laboratoryLead in-person, virtual, or hybrid teams in projects to develop and improve the FASTFiscal
Responsibilities:
Under direction of the IT Director, maintain and oversee the FAST Lab annual budget using sound fiscal accountability Support the purchase computers, peripherals, software licenses, and general supplies for FAST Lab Ensure that all technology procurement in FAST Lab aligns with University of Colorado procurement policies and proceduresMarketing:
Collaborate as needed with CU Denver marketing and communications departments to highlight student and faculty geospatial projectsWork with the FAST Advisory Committee and geospatial faculty to develop, document, advertise and market geospatial training on how to access and use geospatial hardware and softwareCoordinate with CLAS marketing and technical teams to develop and maintain geospatial website presence, such as the FAST Lab website, Geospatial Auraria website, and ArcGIS Online CU Denver Minimum
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in geographical information systems, data science, educational technology, or a related STEM field from an accredited institution; or any bachelor's degree with a GIS Certificate from an accredited institutionTwo years of professional experience in a role with a geospatial technology component.
Substitution:
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basisApplicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hirePreferred
Qualifications:
A graduate degree, graduate coursework, or GIS Certificate in the geospatial sciences from an accredited institutionExperience working in a university teaching lab Experience managing a team.
Experience managing budgets.
Experience with one or more of the following:
designing and creating maps, field spatial data collection (GPS, UAVs/drones), 3D geospatial visualization, spatial/statistics, python programming and automation, or database development and administrationExperience mentoring undergraduate and graduate studentsExperience maintaining computer workstations, geospatial hardware, and software.

Benefits:
The hiring range has been established at $48,701 - $61,948 and is commensurate with skills and experience.
