Also builds and maintains strong alliances with the real estate community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:

) Responsible for the development, execution and management of an overall economic development communications and marketing strategy for the city, including conducting all market research associated with meeting the economic development goals.
Builds and maintains strong alliances with the real estate community through regular contact, one-on-one visits (as required), group meetings, e-newsletters, special events, attending networking events and other means.
Interacts with company executives, public leaders and peers.
Acts as a key contact for real estate needs to ensure broad awareness of business assistance services.
Creates and maintains Thornton's economic development marketing collateral, including organization overview, information packets, and community and regional profiles.
Generates story ideas and writes/edits articles for the website, e-newsletters, publications and economic development marketing/communications materials.
Responsible for website content and maintenance using software such as Adobe software, and WordPress; also updates Excel spreadsheets, PDFs, graphics, etc.
Assists in the production of invitations, PowerPoint presentations and proposals for the Economic Development Department.
Researches and maintains up-to-date local and regional market data, including economic, statistical, financial, population, growth, demographic and other information for dissemination to potential business clients, real estate partners, internal staff, external partners, and the public.
Maintains targeted industry, statistical and demographic information.
Applies targeted industry research and analysis to the development of overall marketing campaign for attraction, retention and expansion of companies within the targeted industries.
Continues annual survey tool to identify company needs and opinion of service level in the local/regional metro area.
Reports annually on survey outcome; disseminates survey to Thornton businesses after presentation to City Council.
Maintains communication with the business and real estate community to monitor trends and activities.
Manages the development and maintenance of local business and property inventories.
Plans, coordinates, and facilitates events for the Alliance Business Assistance Center and the Economic Development Department, including all promotional elements of the event and all logistical aspects of implementing the events.
Events include networking events, business appreciation events, and other business-to-business events.
Works closely with the Alliance Business Assistance Center to promote center workshops, offerings, events, communications, and outreach to the small business community, both Spanish and English speaking, to increase awareness about the center's services and availability to small businesses in Thornton.
Monitors local newspapers and online sources, filing and distributing stories related to the City of Thornton, the Thornton Economic Development Office, economic development in general, targeted industries, real estate and the economy.
Works pro-actively with the city's Communications Department to coordinate and ensure consistency and cohesiveness with other Citywide communications efforts.
Seeks out and makes recommendations for opportunities to coordinate communications efforts.
Ensures Communications is apprised, in a timely manner, of all communication coming out of the Economic Development Office.
Assists with the Department's social media efforts by updating existing media channels and integrating outreach with ongoing marketing activities.
Assists with all economic development marketing and market research initiatives, provides general assistance, including database and customer relationship management CRM administration, and responds to general requests.
Assists in the development of a primary employer forum of Thornton business leaders; establishes goals and agenda for meetings.
May be required to travel and/or work outside of business hours to attend industry-related meetings, events, business functions, and educational and community programs when necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Education/
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related fields from an accredited college or university.
Five years' experience in corporate communications and/or market research.
Demonstrated experience in economic/business development is preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Bilingual skills in English/Spanish preferred.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the City of Thornton and the department.
Knowledge of the City of Thornton Municipal Code related to development.
Knowledge of principles and practices of local government administration.
Knowledge of the general practices, programs and initiatives in the field of economic development.
Knowledge of all facets of website and social media maintenance.
Knowledge of graphic design and image editing software.
Skill in researching, developing, writing, editing, and maintaining marketing collateral.
Skill in maintaining an Internet web site.
Ability to maintain confidentiality on inquiries and development projects.
Ability to work successfully in a team-oriented atmosphere that provides businesses, citizens and employees with accurate information and excellent customer service.
Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software including word processing, presentation, data base management, spreadsheet applications, computerized geographic information systems (GIS) and electronic mail.
Ability to use specialized equipment used in economic development including digital and 35mm cameras, and calculators.
Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.
Ability to research, develop and lead formal and informal presentations and discussions with diverse groups.
Ability to regularly exercise significant discretion and independent judgment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, City boards and commissions, other agencies, and the public.
Ability to be highly detail-oriented and able to proof own work with a high level of accuracy.
Ability to handle multiple work assignments and meet deadlines.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, lift, finger, talk, hear, and make repetitive motions.
The position is mostly light work; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
The employee is required to have close visual acuity.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, talk, hear, see, and demonstrate manual dexterity.
The employee is also required to perform light lifting.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
