The Development Special Events and Volunteer Manager is responsible for the creation, development, implementation and management of special events for the Intermountain Division and works as part of the development team in providing support, resources and project management to every operating unit in the Intermountain Division.
The Development, Special Events and Volunteer Manager provides strategic support with fundraising, events, and stewardship activities for a wide range of projects associated with the division's Director of Development and the Director of Corporate & Community Relations including Major Gifts, Foundations, Corporate partnerships, Communications and Volunteers.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist the Director of Development with all activities related to Advisory Board Development and donor cultivation as needed.
Implement and manage the execution of several projects and events in the Development Department, such as divisional corporate partnerships, THQ programs and partnerships.
This involves coordinating with all members of the development team as well as officers and staff in the field.
Communicate directly with Territorial Headquarters in response to specific inquiries and reporting needs.
Ensure timely reporting for all projects/partnerships.
Maintain a close working relationship internally with Divisional Headquarters' staff as well as with outside contacts, officers and staff to ensure maximum results from all aspects of partnerships and programs.
Prepare acknowledgement letters for the donors assigned to the Director of Development and Director of Corporate and Community Relations as needed.
Ensure that the very highest levels of customer service are engaged when working directly with these donors.
Assist the Development Director and the Community Relations Department by submitting quotes, invoices, and proposals into TSAMM for Finance Committee approval Events:
Develop, plan and execute all aspects of special events throughout the Intermountain Division in co-ordination with the Director of Corporate & Community Relations.
Coordinate and implement special events in collaboration with both the Planned Giving and Major Gifts disciplines.
Oversee the implementation of all 3rd party special events fundraising opportunities that are presented throughout the year, encouraging unit involvement.
Communicate with all stakeholders regarding dates of events, purchasing and coordinating supplies, and scheduling key staff.
Work directly with the Integrated Marketing Manager as needed to develop marketing materials such as flyers, invitations, and social media posts that will raise awareness of each event and acknowledge key community partners.
Develop, coordinate, and regularly update Intermountain Division calendar of activities and events.
Conduct post event meetings with the Director of Development and Director of Corporate and Community Relations to debrief on each event and improve next year's events.
Manage event budgets and use the TSAMM meeting manger, submit all invoices, quotes, and proposals related to events for Finance Council Approval.
Lead special event committees as needed.
Volunteers:
In co-ordination with the Director of Corporate & Community Relations, develop and implement volunteer recruitment plan for corporate, civic, church and school groups.
In co-ordination with the Director of Corporate & Community Relations, develop and supervise large corporate volunteer projects for Corps and programs.
Develop volunteer job descriptions.
Cultivate volunteer opportunities.
Work cooperatively with other staff to coordinate volunteer resources as needed.
Manage online volunteer recruitment sites.
Maintain adequate and properly organized volunteer files.
Manage volunteer phone line and e-mail.
Work with Director of Corporate & Community Relations in placing corporate group volunteers.
Direct individual volunteers to the correct Corps/programs.
Maintain and update volunteer database as needed.
Send thank-you letters/notes and administer appropriate follow-up for volunteers.
Christmas
Essential Functions:
Assist with the recruitment of volunteer bell ringers for Christmas from corporate, civic, and faith based groups.
Provide support for Development events.
Assist with corporate, civic and faith based congregations for the adopt-a-family program.
Assist with corporate, civic and faith based congregations for the Angel Tree program.
Pick up toys as necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Work
Experience:
Associate's degree (A.
A.
) from a two-year college or technical school.
Three to five years of related experience.
Fundraising experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge and experience in project management and/or events management Must be able to effectively multi-task within deadlines and think, plan and follow through consistently at a strategic level.
Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to relate effectively, reliably and professionally with professionals and leaders in the community as well as with key leadership stakeholders in The Salvation Army.
Must be well-organized, proactive, and excellent at follow-up.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and success in managing multiple projects.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Valid Colorado Driver's License that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements.
Previous experience in fundraising helpful.
Must be committed to and embrace the mission of The Salvation Army and must have a passion for the role of development in furthering that mission.
A strong grasp of the specific disciplines within development is a plus.
Must demonstrate good judgment, and work well as part of a development team, and be able to work effectively and in harmony with officers, staff and volunteers.
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and donor database application.
