Summary of Position:
The Financial Aid Manager oversees federal and state work-study funds and customer service operations for the Financial Aid Department.
This includes processing and operational quality assurance activities using the Banner student information system, as well as providing direct supervision for customer service personnel.
The position operates with a deep understanding of federal, state, System, and institutional regulations to implement ethical, consistent, and user-friendly financial aid policies.
Description of PositionManage federal and state work-study funds:
Process incoming student employment requisition forms.
Review individual student eligibility, and award appropriate funds in Banner student information system.
Post biweekly work-study payroll in Banner.
Work with Business Services to reconcile federal and state work-study expenditures on a monthly basis.
Track individual student eligibility throughout the term, including enrollment, satisfactory academic progress, available funding, and continued eligibility.
Initiate annual work-study fairs.
Collaborate with Human Resources to provide annual training to work-study supervisors.
Work with Director of Financial Aid to monitor and project fund spending, and to provide reports as needed.
Supervision:
Hire, train, and supervise two full time professional staff, and a team of Clerical Assistant work-study student employees.
Manage work schedules to ensure adequate customer service coverage.
Monitor hours worked, and approve biweekly timesheets for Clerical Assistant work-study staff.
Provide staff training to assure the department is working with up-to-date and accurate information regarding federal, state, System, and institutional polices, including customer service best practices.
Processing:
Oversee department verification processes, and coordinate processing team to ensure timely review and awarding of files.
Provide secondary reviews of student files to ensure accurate processing by FA Advising team.
Process verifications as needed.
Assist with awarding of funds and review professional judgment requests.
Assist Associate Director with financial aid processing and compliance as needed.
Customer Service:
Supervise customer service operations at the front desk.
Provide direct customer service to students, families, and community members.
Coordinate Financial Aid Advisor and Clerical Assistant coverage for in-person and virtual customer service by managing the on-call schedule.
Monitor general email and voicemail accounts to ensure quality and consistent messaging to all students, and to coordinate timely responses to student inquiries.
Outreach:
Coordinate outreach for community and institutional events including, but not limited to, FAFSA Nights, RRCC Rocks the FAFSA, New Student Orientation, etc.
Develop and enhance outreach materials and presentations.
Proactively provide financial aid outreach to high schools and the RRCC community.
Maintain in depth knowledge of all regulations impacting financial aid in order to support staff and ensure compliant processing.
Proactively conduct research to ensure compliance with all regulations.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
